Animal Habitats

Week 1: Explore a variety of Real Life Animal Habitats. Learn what makes an area a habit for each animal.  What grows there, what is their food source etc. See a variety of different real birds nests. Learn how birds make their nests from different materials including mud, hay, and other material.  Make your own natural nest from mud and other materials from nature. Make your own wood bird house.  Compare the differences in these structures manmade versus nature. Visit Geese and learn about their habits.

Week 2: Learn All about rabbits.  We will visit areas of the farm that have natural rabbit burrows.  Students then get to create one inside the classroom using dirt, sod and other materials.  This model will show as natural as possible how a rabbit lives in the wild.  A real rabbit will be available to burrow in the model.

Week 3: Learn All about Beaver dams.  While we do not have a live Beaver students will be able to recreate a beaver dam using the same materials beavers use in Alaska.

Week 4 : Visit the Animals on the farm and learn about domestic animal habitats.  Inside the classroom learn about habitats of wild goats, sheep and pigs and how they differ from those made by man.
